The Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB), the congress and events industry section of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) entrusted to attract global events to the Middle East’s most-popular business and tourism hub, hosted a recognition event for its Congress Ambassadors at the Shangri La Dubai hotel on May 28th.
The Dubai Convention Bureau works with public and private sector organisations on a continual basis to bring international events to the city and thereby enhancing its global standing and contribution to the economy. The meeting was organized to award organisations and individuals who have actively bid to bring large scale events to Dubai.
A presentation was made by Mr. Abdulla Yousuf, Head of Congress Ambassadors Development, to explain the importance of various congresses hosted in Dubai and the economic impact on the emirate.
The average spend of a congress delegate is AED9760, according to information made available by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
The economic impact of the confirmed events for Dubai from 2011 to 2013 has been estimated at AED 1,834,860,480 based upon the economic impact matrix of the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI).
The future confirmed congresses were also presented to the ambassadors to highlight some of the larger events and their importance to the destination.
Followed by the presentation, the awards were presented to the organizations that have submitted bids for congresses during the year 2011.
The award recipients are: Academy of International Business, Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE, Dubai Sport Council, Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Emirates Dental Society, Emirates Intensive Care Society, Emirates Nephrology Society, Emirates Orthopedic Society, Emirates Rheumatology Society, Emirates Sky Cargo, UAE Ministry of Health, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and the Zayed University.
